neutral  Michael Beijer: very informal. I definitely wouldn’t use this in a written document, unless it was in scare quotes or maybe used jokingly

  -> Formeel had men "tiplijn" gebruikt... niet hier het geval! Gewoon vertalen wat er staat.

agree  katerina turevich: I would use this for the context: 'uitmondt' together with a 'risico'. It's kind of casual, clearly negative, but still used officially, so you have back-up. It's clear and it lends the right tone.

disagree  freekfluweel: Used in Oz and RSA. Try googling "tip-off line uk / usa... //Er staat kliklijn gebruikt in een conversatie. NIET "tiplijn"! http://tinyurl.com/oskysf6

  -> plenty of UK hits: http://goo.gl/AbtqNT / kliklijn en tiplijn zijn nagenoeg synoniem. hoezo "gebruikt in een conversatie"? louter vanwege dat "General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters"? we hebben geen context gehad

agree  Rachel Waddington: I think this is what I would use for UK English

tip line

Explanation:
I'm not sure of British English, but US Homeland Security uses "tip line".

Example sentence(s):
  • Individuals across the world can report suspicious criminal activity to the ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Tip Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Highly trained specialists take reports from both the public and law enforcement agencies on

neutral  freekfluweel: May in fact be a "tiplijn" but this is not used in the conversation/text.

agree  katerina turevich: It may become a widely used expression. Fairly innocuous. On the parallel with police tip offs, It would become the official and colloquial expression to refer to this measure. Do you know, even Albert Hein has a kliklijn?
