The Tailstock Fixture and Slide Table can be positioned independently of the Ram using the Slide Cylinder attached to the Machine Base. This allow the machine to put the Tailstock in the right position for welding based upon the tooling package loaded into the machine without having to have a long cylinder stroke in the expensive Ram Cylinder. There is a Sony Scale that is used to measure the position of the Slide relative to the Base, and this position can be controlled in closed loop. This is the same scale that is used for Upset measurement. There is an attachment on the rear of the Tailstock Fixture that can allow the Ram to be used to move the Tailstock Fixture for the short distance, power stroke of the welder. At the attachment point between the Tailstock Fixture and the Thrust Log (described below) is a Load Cell dummy block or spacer. This spacer can be replaced with a Load Cell (not sold with the machine) that can measure the Load directly in the load path between the Ram Cylinder and the Tailstock Fixture
