je traduis un livre sur les chatons et c'est le titre d'un chapitre concernant l'alimentation du chat, je ne vois pas de quoi il s'agit
un jeu de mot ?
Le chapitre commence ainsi " Before taking your kitten home, ask the breeder or shelter what kind of food your new pet has been eating..."

Une suggestion.
J'ai l'impression que le "um" fait penser à ce que l'auteur est gêné de dire (les besoins du chat), un genre de "hum hum.." en français, mais qui peut faire penser à autre chose aussi..
Le fait de ne rien mettre, juste les trois petits points, fait ressortir la même idée en français selon moi : le sous-entendu.
