Portuguese term or phrase: discos tocados de trás para frente em baixa rotação
Hi everyone! I'm translating a sci-fi novel and am not sure how to translate this phrase. Would it refer to a CD or record? I'm just not sure how you would say this in US English. Thanks for your help!

- Para! Eu não sei de nada!!! – ela gritou, entre um soluço e outro.
- Então vai vir comigo para o outro lado e saber do que eu sou capaz quando quero uma coisa – era uma voz pastosa, grossa, como aquelas de ***discos tocados de trás para frente em baixa rotação***.

Explanation:
e.g.

Listening to random sounds like variable static or records being played rackwards, we can recognise random words here and there, but prime someone with the words they ‘should’ hear and they can become quite clear.

As a South African, I find this both offensive and hilarious :-). Do we really sound like records being played backwards?

Usher describes the robot, called the Nimbus MkIII, as automating pareidolia -- the psychological phenomenon of ascribing significance to random or vague patterns in nature. Famous examples are the man in the moon, or hearing hidden messages on records being played backwards.

There may be something more idiomatic out there to describe his voice, but that's about as literal as I can get.
