neutral  Tony M: Given the way these things are done, it might not be an actual road; think of the FR equivalent, where we talk of 'sol', 'bois', 'terre' etc. / Possibly 'chaussée'? 'voirie'? Though acc. to my researches, 'road' isn't used as category in FR.

  -> Tout à fait d'accord, sachant que les américains dénomment "dirt road" ce qu'on appellerait "chemin de terre"... "chemin" ou "voie d'accès" peut être une alternative, mais en l'absence de contexte je ne sais de quoi il s'agit.
