Cataster is a pretty meaningless Latin 'fortress' expression, but has crept into Continental Europ. text books i.e. on the German/Italian etc. land reg. system

There isn't a sep. UK Land Survey office, though an 'Index Map Search' can be done at the selfsame Land Registry to see if the property has been registered.

The Land Charges Registry in the UK is, again, sthg else and used for making bankruptcy searches.

cadaster/land registry


Explanation:
according to dietl/lorenz the cadaster is the offical register of the value, extent, use, ownership of land. dietl suggests "valuer's office" for katasteramt.
grundbuch is definitely land register.
