English term or phrase: ridge
Alfa Laval’s wide-gap chevron pattern has broken vertical ridges that promote good turbulence while minimizing contact points to reduce the risk of clogging.

Back-flushing, i.e. reversing the flow direction, is performed to prevent fouling and clogging.

témoin d’usure

Explanation:
http://hiqkuilsriver.co.za/products/tyres/
The ridge is on the tread of the tyre and runs over the width of the tyre. Once this ridge is equal in height to the surrounding tread blocks, the tyre is illegal, and you could get fined.

https://www.euromaster.fr/lexique/pneumatique/sillons

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
disagree  Tony M: There may be a 'rainure' between each pair of 'ridges', of course — but a 'rainure' is a 'groove', the very opposite of a 'ridge'; and you can't have a broken vertical groove, that would be a non-sense.
