Medical - Medical: Health Care | | Chinese term or phrase: eat less, live longer | I’m looking for a Chinese couplet – perhaps a classical one - containing the idea expressed by Ben Franklin in the words, "to lengthen thy life, lessen thy meals."
From my own knowledge of Chinese I came up with this:
Shao shi, chang hwo
Duo chy, tsao syy
that is
Little eat, long live
Much eat, soon die.
But this choice of Chinese words seems to me almost as inelegant as the English.
I bet there must be a couplet for this already in Classical Chinese, and hope someone has enough knowledge of that domain to retrieve it.
Failing that, to compose a nicer translation.
Once we have a nice couplet I would also like to have it done in calligraphy.
It’s for an article on caloric reduction as an anti-aging therapy. |
