Cervical screening
Published by Bupa's health information team, September 2009.

This factsheet is for women who would like information about having a cervical smear test for screening. This means having the test when you don't have any symptoms.

A cervical smear is a test to check the health of the cervix (the neck of the womb). The test checks for changes in the cells of the cervix that may, if untreated, develop into cervical cancer. Catching the changes early means that cervical cancer can be prevented.

Deciding on cervical screening
It's your choice whether or not to have a smear test for cervical screening. To make an informed decision and give your consent, it's important that you're aware of the benefits and risks of cervical screening.

Barend ... We are selecting your answer. Thanks for the help. I remember in California that Pap Smear was always used for cervical smear, but this document is for an audience in England, so we will use "cervical smear" for "uitstrijke". And the note that both you and Ron make about "baarmoderhalsscreening" is take.

screening vs. onderzoek

Explanation:

* Uitnodigen van de cliënt
* Onderzoeken van de cliënt
* Beoordeling van het screeningsonderzoek
* Versturen van de uitslag aan de cliënt (bijv. bij borstkankerscreening en in sommige regio’s ook voor de baarmoederhalsscreening) en eventuele derden (huisarts krijgt bij de borstkankerscreening indien afwijkend en bij de baarmoederhalsscreening altijd de uitslag)

Notes to answerer
Asker: Ron ... Your note about the difference between these two Dutch terms is taken. Thanks a lot, once again, for your spot-on translations and advice. Much appreciated ... now I am off to England to see how this is all accepted.
