English term or phrase: Statement Insert
This term has recently come up as a question in my language pair, and I think I know the answer but I've failed to convince my colleagues. I need to find out whether I'm right or wrong, otherwise it will be bugging me for weeks!

This is a marketing term, and it appears in a list of different types of marketing activities, so pretty much out of context. Does anyone know for sure what form of marketing this is? Thanks for your help.

a marketing text included with an account statement
Explanation:
Very common in NA -- ususally a single page (or perhaps a two page folder) that is inserted in the same envelope as an account statement (e.g bank statement, credit card statement, cable TV statement) to promote the activities, products and services of the organisation issuing the statement. Most people receive statements from a variety of organisations regularly, and as long as the contents of the envelope remain below a certain weight, the postage remains the same, so the only additional expense for the insert.

Looking for another channel through which to acquire customers with a strong lifetime value? Of course this is a rhetorical question because who isn’t? Statement inserts are advertisements for products or services that ride along with monthly billing statements, and they may be your answer.

Statement Insert Programs

Statements are also an implied endorsement program. They can be hosted by a bank, utility, cable TV, cellular provider, and other services. They are usually mailed first class and in a #10 envelope or smaller. Statement programs have a strict weight limit and also do not want to detract from their “invoice”; thus programs will accept 1, 2 or a maximum of 3 inserts. The customer is not necessarily a mail order buyer. Rate card pricing is $25/M to $40/M.

With all due modesty, if the context is direct marketing this is undoubtedly the meaning. There are also other types of statements (see the site quoted below), but statement inserts go in account statement envelopes.

See e.g.:

An Insert is a Direct Marketing tool composed of words and images reproduced on paper or another material that can accommodate a printed or recorded message. It communicates an offer from Company A (the mailer) and includes the means to respond to the offer. It is exposed to consumers by “hitching a ride” with materials that Company B (the Program Owner) distributes during the course of doing business. The associated media form for Inserts is the Insert Program opportunities made available by Program Owners.

An example of an Insert Program might be a credit card company’s monthly statements that are sent to its credit card holders. The credit card company (Company B) allows the mailer (Company A) to include its inserts in the same envelope the customers’ monthly statements are mailed in.

Insert Programs are typically categorized by their distribution method.
...
A Statement Insert Program is a program where Inserts are distributed in the same envelope as a Program Owner’s customers’ statements.

could be any number of things

Explanation:
this past week e.g. my newspaper had a special insert where a chiropractor explains his latest helpful device, a politician uses his elaborate statement to garner votes, and a hearing aid firm expounds in detail the virtues of its latest gadget.

to include remarks of 'satisfied customers'

Explanation:
It's the insertion of statements made by, for instance, satisfied customers.
Like on the back cover of books: the wonderful statements made by THE critic of the New York Times, telling us how great the book was and why we all should read it.
Or in advertisements, when people unknown to us are stating that the product really changed their live.
That sort of thing.
