The PSE is calculated by totaling the value of price supports, direct payments, and other transfers to producers of agricultural commodities. Percentage PSE is a measure of the rate of assistance to producers by calculating the PSE as a percentage of total production valued at internal prices.

producer support/subsidy estimate

Explanation:

Look this page: http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/businessline/2001/07/07/...

The average percent-PSE (percentage producer support estimate -- an indicator of the annual monetary value of gross transfers from consumers and taxpayers to agricultural producers) was greater than 80 per cent for rice, between 40 and 50 per cent for sugar, milk, coarse grains, wheat and mutton, between 15 per cent and 35 per cent for poultry, pork, oilseeds, beef and maize and less than 10 per cent for eggs and wool. Support to sugar, milk and rice continue to be provided almost entirely through market price support measure.

Produce Subsidy Equivalent

Explanation:
"Formally, the PSE measures the value of monetary transfers to domestic producers equivalent to the total value of existing support provided at current levels of production, consumption and trade, and hence world prices. Put in other words, it evaluates the sup port system that maintains domestic production and imports at their current levels."
