English term or phrase: springing
Some terrorists have stormed a house and now, they're holding their inoccupants captive in the underground panic room of the house.

Discussion at the MI5 headquarters :
officer 1 : What about the panic room?
officer 2: Only one way in: the lift, which they've disabled and they control from the inside. They didn't skimp on the specs. Carbon fibre doors, reinforced springing. Rock solid.
officer 1: The walls?
officer 2: 16 inches of reinforced concrete all around.

Could you please explain to me what "sprining" mean here? What does it refer to?

disagree  Polangmar: I can't understand this idea. We're talking about a door feature, so nobody's putting any tension on the door. I don't think the question has anything to do with the door spring mechanism.
