English to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general) / Silicon processing - Reinraum | | English term or phrase: If current vendor documentation is currently not in hard copy format | Part on "Documentation" of a technical documentation for clean room work written by a German technical writer.
He gave me this passage for a quick look and I'd rather ask an American native.
"If current vendor documentation is currently not in hard copy format the preferred electronic format is:"
I am not happy with the formulation but can't think of another way to avoid the "current" ... "currently" situation.
My head is all fluffy and I am just unable to think properly.
Please also let me know if you notice anything else. All remarks welcome.
Thanks for your help and comments in advance.
Regards,
Christina |

| | English translation:if current vendor documentation is not presently available in hard copy format | Explanation: I think the first 'current' is fine, so why not change the second one?
Just a passing thought as to whether 'vendor documentation' is actually the right term in the first place? I'm afraid you'll have to work this out from your context, but I have some doubts about 'vendor', which is used in certain quite narrow senses in EN. It may be that you need some sort of term like 'sales literature' instead.
Also 'in hard copy format' is a bit unwieldy, you might consider 'as hard copy', which would be a bit slicker. |

I like yours best. BTW I asked about "vendor": It was a term given by the American client and we have to use it.
Thanks anyway for pointing it out. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
