Explanation: there must be a better way of putting this...
Step-brother: a 'ready-made' brother, acquired (for example) when your father marries again after he has divorced your mother (the step-brother is the son of this new woman).
Half-brother: different from step-brother because the relationship is not *created* by the subsequent marriage. For example, if my father marries again after divorcing my mother, and THEN has a son by his new wife, then this son is my half-brother.
