English term or phrase: short layover
The CBA also stipulates that the roster for mothers of young babies working on international flights should be adjusted to domestic flights out of the home base.
But the company did not always comply with this entitlement in the original rosters, assigning those ***short layovers*** to work standby days.

Insofar, I understand those "short layovers" as cabin crew ladies having babies at home, so they can work only relatively short flights to be back home as soon as possible (and no standby days please)...
Please, tell me what does "short layovers" mean in tgis context. If it may help, the author is an Argentinian...
TIA

agree  Tina Vonhof: If you look at the whole sentence I think what they mean is that the company is assigning 'attendants who work on short-layover flights' to work standby days.

  -> yes, you're right

agree  Deborah Workman: My brother works as a pilot. On standby days crew are at home and may be called or not. By assigning short layovers to work standby days, the employer is basically giving an illusory benefit.
