-The deadly ardvaaark* has somehow, shall we say, reanimated itself. Commander Gallahad* is taking charge of this most disturbing situation right now.

High fantasy setting. A character (meant to sound british) comments with the other party members:

-So is Gallahad sittin' on the monster's chest as we speak?

Would it be ok to translate simply along the lines of "he is dealing with it now" or there might an idiomatic layer I am missing?

You're right about the "dealing with", but it's all in the past.

When a big-game animal (eg elephant or tiger) was killed (I hope I'm safe in using a past tense here), the big brave hunter used to sit on its chest with his gun for a photo.
