English to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Idioms / Maxims / Sayings | | English term or phrase: ensure she was there | I’m translating a letter, from a law firm to a client. I’m not sure what the phrase ‘’ensure she was there’’ means in the context below. Does it mean ‘’ensure her attendance’’?:
,,On 4th September 2010 you attended the Magistrates Court in relation to an allegation of failing to send your daughter, Catherine, to school without reasonable justification to which you had previously pleaded “not guilty”.
Before the hearing I spoke to you at some length about the reason Catherine was not going to school.
At a previous hearing you had said that you had to take your son to school elsewhere and therefore you could not take Catherine to school to ensure she was there.
However, on speaking to you before the hearing, I informed you that the dates relating to Catherine’s attendance for which you were being prosecuted were the period from 24th October 2009 – 15th March 2010 whereas your son did not start school until June 2010. ‘’ |
