Asker: Thanks Ann :) As Sheila said, I needed to understand the concept before translating it into Arabic.

have you in its grip

Explanation:
Remember that calamari is made from squid, which have eight arms and two tentacles. Perhaps this phrase was used in figurative reference to wrestling? e.g. wrestle/grapple with.
Is this a menu for a sports bar? You seem to have many a sporting reference.

will get is hooks into you ..will get you hooked

Explanation:
grappling hold on you => will get is hooks into you ..will get you hooked

A grappling hook is an anchor with multiple hooks (claws, flukes), attached to a rope; it is thrown, dropped, sunk, projected, or fastened directly by hand to where at least one hook may catch and hold. Generally, grappling hooks are used to temporarily secure one end of a rope. They may also be used to dredge for submerged objects. Historically, grappling hooks were used in naval warfare to catch ship rigging so that it could be boarded.

grab you

Explanation:
Just to throw in another vernacular possibility. As mentioned in another entry, it's a play on the arms of the octupus. The fried calimari will quickly or suddenly seize your interest and arouse your appetite .

Oh my goodness. How many errors can I make in one answer... Misspelled "calamari" and of course, I meant arms of a squid... Haste makes waste.

strong hold/power over you

Explanation:
The meaning is similar to an addiction, that it has a strong hold on you or power over you, one that is difficult to resist.
