English term or phrase: First (here)
This is a witness statement in the Hight Court of Justice Queen's Bench Division. In the upper right corner the following appears:

The Claimants
/the name of the witness/
First
May 2011
Exhibit /number/

“First” cannot refer to “May” here, can it? What does it refer to, then?
Thanks!

"First witness statement" means "first statement by this witness", not "statement of the first witness"!

first (here)
1st May

Explanation:
Yes, I think it can be the date, the first of May, here. I cannot think of other instances of "First" being on its own on a line without an explanation - first of what?

neutral  B D Finch: Extremely unlikely that 1st would be written in full for a date and on a separate line too.

disagree  AllegroTrans: definitely NO: it's the first witness statement filed by this party; I often see these
