English term or phrase: completing a locks, bolts and bars
hello everyone,

Even in seemingly ‘technical’ matters – for example, censoring letters (an officer can draw upon their knowledge of a wing and the prisoner in reading letters) or in completing a locks, bolts and bars (checking around a prisoner’s cell – their home – in a way that does not disturb or upset them) – relationships matter.

Do I understand correctly that "completing a locks, bolts and bars" mean to check/make sure that cells are locked properly.

Thank you.

English translation:checking the cell´s security
Explanation:
As you suggest, it sounds like a routine check of the security elements of the cell, to see if they have been tampered with.

Reference: LBB (a locks, bolts and bars

Reference information:
On the 27th at 0900 there's an entry "LBBs" --
2 that's locks, bars and bolts?
3 A. Locks, bolts and bars, yeah.
4 Q. "Medication found in cells, razors and a noose".
5 That entry itself doesn't identify where those
6 things were found or, importantly, if they were in
7 somebody's possession in whose possession. Is that
8 satisfactory?
9 A. No, sir.
10 Q. Because of itself it doesn't really tell you anything,
11 does it?
12 A. No.
13 Q. We know, I think, that certainly Mr D was found that
14 morning in possession of a razor and a noose. Is that
15 significant, a significant piece of information?

Each officer
signs the entry concerning the check period he completed. LBB checks refer to locks, bolts and
bars. This is a check carried out at least once every 24 hour period at irregular intervals. The
check is on every cell and is to ensure that security has not been breached or compromised. It
not only includes locks, bolts and bars but the full fabric of the cell, walls, floors and ceilings.
This is the main deterrent to prevent inmates escaping.
