Looking at the French, it appears that Alex was not trying to "collect more money" but he was hoping that Emma would offer him a lower price - that is not the same thing. "Increased Emma's impatience" does not sound good either. We would have to know more of the context to be able to re-word the whole sentence

Emma's impatience to collect more money was perhaps increased by Alex...or may have been increased by Alex...

To me, the sentence is correct and means that Alex made Emma more impatient to collect more money. Emma wished to collect more money, she was impatient to do so, and Alex made her more so. As it stands, I don't think it can mean that Alex increased Emma's impatience so that he could collect more money; at least, it would not naturally be understood to mean that.

Does the sentence mean that Alex did something to make Emma more impatient, so that he could collect more money? The meaning of the sentence seems rather unclear as written.
