"JUGULAR VEIN OR SUBCLAVIAN VEIN CATHETERISATION IN CHILDREN (...) RECOMMENDED INSERTION PROCEDURE (...) For a subclavian approach in neonates the following technique is suggested. Place the patient in a supine position on a table in a 25° head-down position. Position the arms at the sides and restrain the limbs. Turn the head away from the puncture. Place a rolled towel beneath the vertebral column, between the shoulders, to push the clavicular area upwards and open up the small space between the clavicle and the first rib."
