You may be sent for an x-ray, but usually this is not necessary. Although it may well show that you have some WEAR AND TEAR CHANGES, these features are coomon in people without backache and so don't have much influence on the choice of treatment.

Explanation:
'wear and tear' is a natural result of tasks repeated day after day, year in year out. Everything slowly starts to wear out with age (and not just our bodies...! Electrical appliances, trainers etc...!!)

An X-Ray may well show changes in the discs, vertebrae, but these will be the natural result of gradual wearing out through age.

Lots of examples of 'wear and tear', degeneration through / because of / as a cause of wear and tear.
