English to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general)
English term or phrase: aggravating
"The drug XX should not be used in the following situations:
-hypernatremia
-acidosis
-aggravating haemorrhagic diatheses"

I am actually proofreading an En-Slovenian text, and the translator translated as "worsening hemorrhagic diatheses". I doubt, however, that that is the meaning of aggravating here. Does aggravating relate to hemorrhagic tendency or does it mean that the bleeding tendency actually worsens the underlying condition, meaning that the bleeding tendency aggravates the condition?[ that's how I read it]

I would be pleased to hear your suggestions (esp. senior MD colleagues!)
Thanks!

increasing

Explanation:
i suppose in this context that the bleeding tendency is getting worse or increasing. On the other hand the term aggravating could be misleading here, since it means deteriorating.

drug increasing the predisposition for bleeding

Explanation:
Since there are conditions listed in which the drug should not be used, I think it is the drug that is increasing the predisposition for bleeding. (It may have a blood thinning effect)

agree  Tina Vonhof: I think so too: the drug should not be used if it appears to agravate the predisposition for bleeding.
