English translation:person for whom HIV infection has led to worsening symptoms
Explanation:
Those diagnosed with having the HIV virus are divided into 'progressors' and 'non-progressors'. Progressors are those whose symptoms worsen. Non-progressors are those (comparatively more) fortunate individuals who have survived a long period (usually 15 years) without worsening symptoms.

There are references to the use of this word in relation to diseases other than HIV - for example http://jvi.asm.org/cgi/reprint/75/10/4570.pdf, but the vast majority of sources are in relation to HIV.

Example sentence(s):
  • "We have reported that NK cells from HIV-infected progressors showed a markedly lower IFN-gamma production in response to an A-class CpG oligodeoxynucleotide as compared to LTNP subjects and healthy HIV-negative individuals"
  • "Non-progressors are defined as people who have been HIV-positive for up to 15 years with no symptoms and have continually normal and stable T-helper cell counts."

  -> I made it clear that the term is used in conjunction with other illnesses. It's the concept that is important, not the application, surely? ;)
