English translation:Special type of tube for blood collection
Explanation:
Normally, "plain" means lacking any special features.

"Container Type: Red-top tube (Plain) no additive, Green-top tube (sodium heparin), Lavender-top tube (EDTA), Gray-top tube (sodium fluoride) "
In the above example it's a blood container that lacks any additives, unlike the others which have certain chemicals in them.

So basically, a plain red top tube is a simple tube with nothing in it (as opposed to green top tubes with sodium herapin, lavender top tubes with EDTA...) etc...

plain red-top tube

Explanation:
'plain red-top' refers to the type of tube containing no additive, in contrast to green, gray or lavender top tubes.

Example sentence(s):
  • Red-top tube (Plain) no additive, Green-top tube (sodium heparin), Lavender-top tube (EDTA), Gray-top tube (sodium fluoride)
  • (ii) Serum for PCB, pesticide and herbicide analysis should optimally be collected in plain red top tubes (without separator gel) and transported in plastic vials or glass tubes with teflon-lined caps. Analytical interference is often seen if serum is col

[blood] collection tube containing no additive

Explanation:
Many test tubes contain additives ( e.g. EDTA). Plain tube simply means that it contains nothing.

Here is a listing of types of tubes and what they contain:

http://www.austincc.edu/mlt/phb_tubes

As far as I remember, the red-top tube is used for regular "Blutbild".
