UK explanation
Explanation: In the UK at secondary school level, all school pupils are put into a 'form', a registration group, or even tutor group. This is their first port of call before they divide up for their individual lessons during the day. At break-times or lunch time they may go back to their form room, and they must always report there for morning and afternoon registration. Their form master, or 'tutor' is responsible for registration, recording absence and pastoral care where needed. If parents want a general discussion on a child's progress, the form master should be able to talk to all individual subject teachers for that child and liaise with the parents. 'Form' can be substituted with 'year'...as in "Mary of the First Form"... I hope this make is easier to find a US equivalent. Form is quite a dated expression now..I think Tutor and Tutor Group are more common.
