a small person in stature or a person regarded as unimportant
Explanation:
If you are looking for the definition other than the common shrimp which some of us eat, the word means the above, but cannot be so sure since there is no context at all.

A classic Italian rice dish made with Arborio rice. This is a dish where you can really play with the ingredients. Great for a lunch dish, starter for a dinner party or even as a dinner by itself.

US for Prawn

Explanation:
In the USA. a prawn is a shrimp, not usually used to describe people, except if they are very young. It would be derogatory to call someone a shrimp.
An infant could be called a shrimp if they were very small, but you would only say it when they couldn't be offended.

Here in Au I grew up with a kid whose nickname was "shrimpy" He was very small, another friends name was "stretch" he was very tall. But this was 40 years ago when nicknames didn't matter so much.

I see the gay community also use Shrimpy....

Shrimpy, A gay like persona.. http://blogs.denverpost.com/opinion/2009/02/26/gay-or-just-s...

Shrimpy seems to be a popular Brand name for Restaurants, Dog beds, boats and also self proclaimed nicknames.

I am sure you don't need information on Prawns

Just a thought.. calling someone a Shrimp (prawn) could be calling them a hard headed parasite. Prawns / shrimps are the Cockroaches of the sea...... Shrimp head?
