English term or phrase: hands-on
Infomercials are very powerful, and a friend of mine edits and publishes Infomercial Mar-keting Report.He has a lot of talk about the whole industry changing. It's splitting two ways andneither one are where I think the big opportunity lies. The one-shot product doesn't work anymore.Imean they can sell, you know, some hypey stuff, but all the big companies are trying to get in, thebig prestigious companies. But they're not willing to be aggressive enough to use it if it's too hands-on because it gets committeeized and all of a sudden it's just basically neutered.

labour intensive / gets too many people involved
Explanation:
Normally "hands-on" is used to describe work that requires a lot of personal, physical, work. "Hands-on experience" is something that is done, not just theorized. Because committees are mentioned here, I would interpret it as requiring the involvement of many people, each dedicating many hours and consulting with each other, a process that slows down the speed of the work and leads to comprises that could result in a not very exciting (neutral) marketing strategy.

demanding

Explanation:
Meaning 'requiring much effort or attention'. Hands-on is used negatively here. Usually it is something positive. Here, hands-on implies the need to commit yourself into providing services, dealing with practical issues, solving all kinds of problems involved, having to set up an organisation (the committees mentioned) which eats time and money.

Actually I think it is meant as, everyone, is throwing an idea on the table and not willing to get physical and sleeves up dirty for it. They would argue about it, but as soon as it gets too demanding that they need to work at it, they back off.

Example sentence(s):
  • when it is asked about how to create this operating table so complicated and advanced everyone comes up with a map & a drawing, but when you ask them ok, here is the material make it happen, everyone suddenly remembers their late appointments.
