English term or phrase: bare bones minimum
"If we are right, by making a few simple shifts in what you do and how you do them, not spending any more time, not hiring any more people, not spending a dime more on advertising, sales forces, promotions, internal staff or anything else, just doing it differently, we think we can produce for you a bare bones minimum of 40% - if that's what you think - up to 200."

"Simply stated, we guarantee your reading speed will improve at the end of the first three hours session you spend with us by a bare bones minimum of nearly double"

agree  Suzan Hamer: Yes, and with Lindsay; "at least" in the second case... In the first, it's not clear what they can produce 40% of--perhaps an increase or a savings of at least 40%... and could they seriously mean up to 200%?

bare minimum

Explanation:
'bare minimum' is perfectly idiomatic English here and is somewhat more common than 'absolute minimum'. A Google search of both terms resulted in 880,000 hits for the former versus 558,000 for the latter--not a huge difference, but significant. I think you could go either way and be okay, but I would go with 'bare minimum'. 'Bare bones minimum' is in any case a conflation of the set phrases 'bare bones' and 'bare minimum' and is completely wrong.

I guess I should add that my preference is based on my intuitions as a speaker of American English; British speakers may have a different sense of the matter.

neutral  B D Finch: "Bare bones minimum" is not completely wrong. It is inappropriate to the contexts and, in my view, makes the writers sound like hucksters. Your Google stats comparison is irrelevant; this is a question of register.

-> 'Bare bones minimum' is very uncommon and strikes me as comical. The Google stats are not overly significant, but interesting, and the actual search results can be used to weigh the usage/register issues.

agree  Amel Abdullah: Agree with "bare minimum."
