Professor explained research he had done on the family and social effects of extended working hours and FIFO. Professor addressed the importance of circadian rhythm and sleep education.

What is meant by circadian? I could not find this word in any online dictionaries. Thank you.

The Circadian rhythm is a name given to the "internal body clock" that regulates the (roughly) 24 hour cycle of biological processes in animals and plants. (The term circadian comes from the Latin circa, meaning "around" and dies, "day", meaning literally, "around the day").

Explanation:
I don't know the technical way to explain this, (except that it is thought to be to do with Melatonin and the Pineal gland in the brain), but it means the way that the body adapts to sleeping at a certain time because it is dark at that time. The length of time that people sleep and are awake gradually changes if they are shut away from daylight (and so don't react to the hours of light and dark).
