English term or phrase: that went not astray
Elizabeth Barrett had the same number of brothers and sisters that Shakespeare had; and we know no more of the seven Barretts who were swallowed by oblivion than we do of the seven Shakespeares that went not astray
xxxoutsideralic
English translation:reference to the return of the lost sheep
Explanation:
In the biblical parable (Mathew 18: 12-13) of the lost sheep, the shepherd "rejoiceth more of that sheep (that had) gone astray ... than of the ninety and nine that went not astray."

Poets, as Robert Frost reminded us, take the unusual path, "road less traveled." They don't go with the crowd. They go off on their own.

So that's the metaphorical history being drawn on, I believe, to say that those "that went not astray," and led ordinary lives are those that are forgotten. It is the poets, who act differently who are remembered.

-> Not a black sheep, but Will did continue to take great risks in following a different path even after the murder of his friend Chris Marlowe.

that (presumable) stayed at home, unlike their brother William

Explanation:
I think the writer is trying to say that William is known - among other reasons! - because he left home - his siblings did NOT 'go astray' and so little is known of them.

Another example: this is about the writer Oliver Goldsmith. His brothers and sisters “went not astray”: the implication is that their lives were ordinary or unremarkable. Oliver Goldsmith was the exceptional one:

Charles Goldsmith was a clergyman, passing rich on forty pounds a year.
He had a nice little family of eight children, and what became of the
seven who went not astray I do not know. But the smallest and homeliest
one of the brood became the best-loved man in London. These sickly boys
who have been educated only because they were too weak to work--what a
record their lives make!
