English term or phrase: a pun?
It was to confirm that the newsreader wasn't on drugs that Beema rang an old schoolfriend of hers, whose brother-in-law was the CEO of STD (that he was a noted philanderer made the title hilarious to both Rabia and me).

What's the joke here? Why should the title be hilarious? Is there any word play in this that I am missing?
STD is a television company. There's really nothing more in the text that could account for the "hilariousness" of the title.

English translation:STD - sexually transmitted disease
Explanation:
So the name of the TV company is STD and her friend's husband is the CEO. It's funny because he is a notorious philanderer and STD means 'Sexually Transmitted Disease', something you might pick up if you sleep with a lot of different people.

By the way, these days I believe it's more correct to say 'STI' - 'sexually transmitted infection'.

From the Urban Dictionary 3 and 4 apply:

1) a small piece of metal, often bolt shaped (seen often on belts and such)
2) a small earring with a rounded top often used for piercing and worn by both men and women.
3) a male animal desirable for breeding (like a racehorse)
4) a guy who is popular with the ladies and has no trouble getting laid, and who may also be attractive-looking, but not always. (often used jokingly, see example) 3) After winning the race, the racehorse became a prime stud for breeding.
4) Scott is quite a stud around here, he can always get a date.
OR: (jokingly) "Yeah, there were so many desperate girls and so few guys at that party that Chad became a total stud."
