English term or phrase: signatories for witness
I was just wondering if there is a word missing in this sentence. Or, is it fine as is.

Behind them, in the spectators seats, were Mr. and Mrs. Areca, signatories for witness.

Thank you!

English translation:Signatories for (the) witness / signatory witnesses
Explanation:
There may be a legal term (like Clerk of Works but that's from memory and might not be a legal term) "signatories for witness", but to be on the safe side, unless it's a highly technical document, I'd stick with "signatories for the witness".

If, if, IF they *are* signatories.

Let me throw this in: are they in fact witnesses for the signatories? E.g. when someone gets married, they have witnesses and the witnessing they do is to the signing in the marriage register (know from personal experience when partner did this for his brother). So if you check the context, you might find they are signatory witnesses, or "witnesses to the signatories" or some such.

Just an idea!

agree  Charles Davis: I'm pretty sure it must mean "signatory witnesses". It's not a standard legal term in English, but I've found it in one document from the Philippines meaning "sponsors", ie. witnesses who sign the register.
