English term or phrase: it came across the ribbons
Hi everyone, I'm translating a fantasy story and I have this sentence that I don't really understand. "It came across the ribbons." Basically, the husband of a witch hears a ringing from his wife while she sleeps. The complete sentence is: "The ringing in his ears was from his wife, and it came across the ribbons."
I don't understand what "come across the ribbons" means. I thought it was an idiom, but I couldn't find anything, and then I thought that maybe the authors imagine the bond between the witch and her husband as "ribbons", but I'd like to be sure. I hope someone can help!

Asker: that's exactly the story I'm translating :) So it basically represents the bond between them?

The children slept soundly in their beds in the next room over– Ellone with her blanket pulled up under her chin, Squall with his thumb in his mouth, and Selphie, the little one they'd found near Timber's train tracks, mumbling slightly.

Comments suggest that "ribbons" are "ties" (an unspoken bond between the couple), a closeness.

This was absolutely lovely. <3 There is something surreal and wonderful, imagining their bond ******like ribbons***** and having the knights feel/follow them.

Thank you so much! :) I liked exploring the possible bonds between them.
