English term or phrase: wars would be banished
Covetousness and greed are the cause of so much oppression and pain in this world. The strong take advantage of the weak to feed their unquenchable thirst for more and more (Micah 2.2). Nations go to war to gain territory and possessions by force. Even children often behave in a spiteful and violent way to get what they want. Unbelievers like to blame God for wars and suffering, but if only they would keep this commandment not to covet, ***wars would be banished***.

Would they disappear or be prohibited?

wars would disappear
Explanation:
In this case, disappear, or cease to happen, though "banish" can often have an element of compulsion about it.

agree  Armorel Young: yes, indeed. (If you "banish fear" you make it go away - you can't exactly prohibit it)

agree  William [Bill] Gray: "Banished forever" has a newer less literal meaning in the language which simply signifies "removed". I suspect the context allows best for this interpretation, and not the idea of a autocratic active banishing. So I think it is a good word to use.
