English to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Slang / abbreviation / might be a legal term as well | | English term or phrase: a.k. | I suspect this is the abbreviated form of a slang expression, but might as well be that of a legal term (as you see, there's also the 'd.a.' in the same text=district attorney). If slang, please bear in mind that the book was written in 1971.
The rambling thoughts of a frustrated prisoner about his public defender and other figures in a court process:
"Public defender. What the hell does he care. Probably trying to get a job in the d.a./s office anyway. All they want you to do is plead guilty. Yeah, they tell you if youre not guilty say so. But they do everything they can to get you to plead guilty. Public defender. ha. Defender. My ass defender. Couldnt even defend that, the rotten **** a.k./s. **** Afraid to bug the judge because they might get in front of him when they have a private practice. Just trying to make friends with every son of a bitch in court except their client."
Note that the abbreviation I ask is in the plural above (the author uses slashes [/] instead of apostrophes ['] throughout the text.)
Thanks in advance for any help! |

Asker: Thank you, Robert. (And sorry for confusing you about the language. I'd posted EN-mono, but apparently it changed when I went back to edit the question with the offensive flag.)
