English term or phrase: 7 wins, 2 to 5
I often saw this phrase in the description of horse pedigree. I think that this means that the horse is a seven times winner and ran from the age of two to the age of five. The horse retired at the age of five.

I would like to know if my understanding is correct. Please advise.

Explanation:
Hi Hikonishi
Don't claim to be an expert on the GGs but I'm pretty sure that 2 to 5 here refers to the age of the racehorse. I'm not sure however that the horse actually retired at age 5. I'd be more inclined to say that the horse won 7 times between age 2 and 5.

Actually, just checked and racing thoroughbreds retire quite young (4 to 5) before going off to the stud farm ;) Geldings race a little longer than stallions. So, you're probably right in thinking 5 is the retirement age.

agree  xxxmediamatrix: If the horse is still running, these docs. say something like "2 to race", where 'race' means 'the most recent race run', implying the the GG has not yet retired.
