English term or phrase: comped rooms
For weeks at a time the internet went down. We had cancellations, comped rooms, anything you could think of. We coordinated with local company and got them sent out to get free WIFI at the closest one available and they we’re really appreciative of that.

English translation:Free rooms given to keep guests from leaving
Explanation:
From the limited context, it seems as though the problems with the (lack of) internet caused guests to cancel reservations and was a big problem. Apparently, they gave away rooms at no charge (comped rooms) in an attempt to appease customers and to improve the (dire) situation. They helped to arrange for their guests to use a nearby (free) wifi location.

agree  Mark Nathan: Rooms offered with the management's compliments. Although I must say it seems a bit excessive to give someone a free room just because the internet is down.

-> Thank you, Mark. Perhaps the situation seems extreme, but if the competition has a good connection and wifi, I am sure that business could be lost.

agree  Oliver Simoes: Not so much if you consider the Internet was down for weeks. Nowadays, Internet service is an expectation for many. :-)

-> Thank you, Oliver. My client was in Acapulco and the internet in his hotel was terrible. He was trying to hold online meetings and could not. He said guests were leaving to find a better hotel (connection) but his in-laws owned the place. He was so upset!
