isnt a pun as such - unless it is in your context - its used quite normally, eg, when monuments are deliberately knocked down, removed, demolished at the end of a dictatorship, change in ideology/politics, the end of an era etc - eg. Saddam's statue in Iraq, Hitler monuments etc.
