Science - Tourism & Travel | | English term or phrase: cattle breed description/colour around eyes etc. - question | I have had to translate the descriptions for 3 native PT cattle breeds (Minhota, Barrosã & Cachena) for a tourist text.
Two descriptions refer to the 'mucosa'. Here are the drafts:
It has a short, wide head, ** a dark mucous membrane**, and upswept lyre-shaped horns.
It has a chestnut-coloured coat, ***a dark mucous membrane***, and upswept, front-facing horns.

I have found no confirmation in cattle breed sites that 'mucous membrane' is the right term. It is obviously a reference to colouring in the area of the eyes, nose and mouth.
What word could I use instead of mucous membrane? |
