English term or phrase: scanned
I cannot make out why some registration certificates (originals) have an imprint saying SCANNED on them (special notes area).

Does it mean the certificate has been scanned and a scanned copy is kept on records or what?

Reference information:
if the document has an imprint marked "scanned", then it is a scanned copy of the original (in contrast to a printed copy thereof)

the watermarks are integrally introduced when the paper is produced and are independant of the text printed on the paper. In this case, I would count it as being equivalent to the original. However, this may depend on the legal interpretation which may defer from one country to another.

Note to reference poster
Asker: That was my first guess, but it still has the watermarks and looks exactly like the original. So is it equivalent to its original?
