"área" concuerda con adjetivos "femininos" pero cuando se usa el artículo definido singular, hay que usar "el" por la etimología y los sonidos.
Históricamente el articulo definido viene de "ela"
Así que, cuando hay un sustantivo feminino singular que comienza con la sílaba acentuada y el sonido de "a", se usa "el"
