Albanian term or phrase: KUR IA DHE TË
KUR IA DHE TË

In a situation in my Albanian textbook, a little girl goes shopping for the first time. Her family allow her to do so because they know the greengrocer very well, and he is extremely friendly and helpful.
She buys the goods, but when her brother Petrit asks how much they cost, she says:
Nuk di. Baca Shpend (the greengrocer) nuk më tregoi.
That’s easy for me, but then her brother says:
Pse nuk e pyete kur ia dhe të hollat, Zanë?
Now, to me this means, “Why didn’t you ask when it to him (ia = i + e) and money, Zanë?
Perhaps one of these short words (kur ia dhe të) has another meaning which I'm unaware of? (I'm afraid I don’t understand the të here at all.)
Best wishes,
Simon

Explanation:
The word "dhe" here means "gave" (Past tense).
The verb conjugation in Albanian is difficult, some of verbs change a lot, including their root. Let's give an example:
Present Tense for "Jap" (Give):

Singular

Unë jap (I give)
Ti jep (you give)
Ai/ajo jep (he/she gives)

Plural:
Ne japim (we give)
Ju jepni (you give)
Ata/ato japin (they give)

Past tense:

Singular:
Unë dhashë (I gave)
Ti dhe (You gave)
Ai/ajo dha (he/she gave)

Plural:
Ne dhamë (we gave)
You dhatë (you gave)
Ata/ato dhanë (they gave)

In Albanian, we have some verbs that are called irregular (do not follow the same conjugations rules) and change during the conjugation. Most of the verbs however, are regular verbs. "Give" is an irregular verb. The Past Participle for "give" is: (kam) "dhënë."

Hope this helps and good luck with the studing of the Albanian language and grammar :)
Monika
