كما تعلمون فإن العبرة تستخدم في السياق السلبي للحديث على النقيض من المثال الذي يستخدم إيجابا، فلا نقول: كان فلان عبرة يحتذى، بل نقول: مثالا يحتذي. وعلى هذا النحو فإن Warning example هي أقرب للصواب، لأنها تحمل معنى التهديد كما يظهر جليا في السياق العربي. وقد عثرت بعد البحث في الإنترنت على هذا المعني في إحدى ترجمات القرآن الكريم أنجزها محمد أسد، تجدون رابطها أدناه، والله المستعان.
