dictation using texts that the students have already seen as well as texts that they have not seen

Explanation:
الإملاء المنظور
This refers to a text taken directly from a book - a specific paragraph, for example, that the students can read and study for because it is already in their books (something they have "seen"). The teacher then uses the same text to administer a dictation exam.

الإملاء غير المنظور
This refers to a text that is not present in any of the books used by the students. The teacher makes up her own text and uses it to administer a dictation exam. In this case, the students don't have the opportunity to study the text in advance because they have never seen it.

There are different ways to express this depending on how you wish to word the sentence but I can't think of a compact phrase in English that would correspond directly to the words used in Arabic.
