Peace be upon you Explanation: Pronounced: ASSALAMU "ALAYKUM. Your correspondent omitted the definite article. If the first character is a و then it probably is meant as a conjunction ("and"). I can't quite make out what the character is on my monitor. The expression is used in correspondence both as an opening greeting and as a closing salutation.
