Arabic term or phrase: الكانون 31, 1369 و.ر It is a date from a Libyan document. I know that it refers to (وفاة الرسول), but in Syria we have two كانون, the first and the second, is it different in Libya? Is there a formula to convert the date into the standard Hijri or to Gregorian calendar? Thank you

31 كانون 1369 = 31 ديسمبر 2001 Explanation:(1) the current Lunar Libyan Calendar is called "Anno Jamahiriya", in short "AJ". it is based on the year the Prophet (pbuh) passed away. Lunar Libyan Year (AJ) is: AH - 11 = AJ 1425 - 11 = 1414 so, now it is year 1414 AJ in Libya, equal to 1425 AH. (2) As for year in your question, 1369, you calculate it as follows: AH - 53 = Libyan Year 1422 - 53 = 3169 the -53/-54 years is for hmmm!! i'm not sure (3) as for Kanon month, in the Libyan calendar it is DECEMBER only, unlike the Syrian/Iraqi which has two Kanons I & II. December = Kanon (Libya) = Kanon I (Syria) January = Ayunnar(Libya)= Kanon II (Syria) therefore, the Libyan 31 Kanon 1369, will be equal to 31 December 2001 here's a table to puzzle your mind :) http://www.phys.uu.nl/~vgent/islam/libya/jamahiriya.htm--------------------------------------------------Note added at 15 hrs 35 mins (2004-08-04 04:53:59 GMT)--------------------------------------------------31 كانون 1369 31 ديسمبر 2001--------------------------------------------------Note added at 15 hrs 38 mins (2004-08-04 04:56:59 GMT)--------------------------------------------------typo, in (2): 1422 - 53 = 1369 by the way, the date today in Libyan is 4 Hanibaal 1372 4 هانيبعل 1372 4 أغسطس 2004--------------------------------------------------Note added at 22 hrs 54 mins (2004-08-04 12:13:05 GMT)--------------------------------------------------the -53/-54 difference is probably because according to Libyan Calendar; and, as the Prophet (pbuh) died when he was 63/64 years old, it was year 11 AH, (11 years after Hijra to Madina). So, there is a difference of 53 years from Date of Birth to Date of Hijrah, and 11 years from date of Hijrah to date of Prophet\'s (obuh) death. I guess that\'s about it, if i got it right!

31 كانون 1369 = 31 ديسمبر 2001

Explanation:
(1) the current Lunar Libyan Calendar is called "Anno Jamahiriya", in short "AJ". it is based on the year the Prophet (pbuh) passed away.

Lunar Libyan Year (AJ) is:
AH - 11 = AJ
1425 - 11 = 1414

so, now it is year 1414 AJ in Libya, equal to 1425 AH.

(2) As for year in your question, 1369, you calculate it as follows:
AH - 53 = Libyan Year
1422 - 53 = 3169

the -53/-54 years is for hmmm!! i'm not sure

(3) as for Kanon month, in the Libyan calendar it is DECEMBER only, unlike the Syrian/Iraqi which has two Kanons I & II.
December = Kanon (Libya) = Kanon I (Syria)
January = Ayunnar(Libya)= Kanon II (Syria)

therefore, the Libyan 31 Kanon 1369,
will be equal to 31 December 2001

here's a table to puzzle your mind :)

typo,
in (2): 1422 - 53 = 1369

by the way, the date today in Libyan is 4 Hanibaal 1372

4 هانيبعل 1372
4 أغسطس 2004

the -53/-54 difference is probably because according to Libyan Calendar; and, as the Prophet (pbuh) died when he was 63/64 years old, it was year 11 AH, (11 years after Hijra to Madina).
So, there is a difference of 53 years from Date of Birth to Date of Hijrah, and 11 years from date of Hijrah to date of Prophet\'s (obuh) death.

I guess that\'s about it, if i got it right!
