I just need commentary on the correctness of this word's use here. Could it mean what the author is using it to mean? Seems to me it is completely wrong and would have to be "caiguda".

"Els seguidors pakistanesos del deposat règim talibà de l'Afganistan van anunciar ahir des de Quetta (sud-oest) que la guerra contra els Estats Units continuarà més enllà de la **fallida** de Qandahar i que el moviment islamista radical tornarà a sorgir de nou."
