Catalan term or phrase: ¿mecanisme molt enginyós?
I must be missing something here; these sound like ordinary blinds to me ...

"A l’interior, el mecanisme d’obertura de les persianes és molt enginyós i recorda el de la finestra-papallona de la Cripta Güell: el costellam de fusta de cada finestreta s’obre i es tanca tibant de les cadenetes que pengen a sobre el banc."

maybe it is linked to their shape???

Explanation:
Where are these blinds, Jon?

Maybe he is referring to the shape of the blinds and the windows? If they are not rectangular, as in the case of the windows in the crypt, maybe this is what makes the mechanism so special and clever??

Here are some photos of the windows in the Cripta Guell. You have probably seen them already. Maybe they will help a wee bit. I hope so anyway.

Sheila

I don\'t know if this is of any help, but they are talking about a fine wooden jalousie here. I include the reference in case it is of use. Sheila
Crowning the structure is a unique roof with eighteen projecting chimney and ventilation pipes in various suggestive forms covered in trencadís (broken pieces of ceramic) which Gaudí was to use in many of his later works. A bat-shaped wind vane points the wind direction between a cross and a textured, stone spire. The rear facade is adorned with a bay window equipped with a fine wooden jalousie (a window equipped with louvers).

It seems to me you can move the wooden slats of the jalousie with the famous \'cadenetes\'. However, that doesn\'t seem like rocket science or anything out the ordinary. Maybe it was when he constructed the mechanism though. Anyway, that\'s all I can think of for the moment. Maybe they are referring to something else and not these wooden jalousies. Sheila

Obviously, the author finds the opening mechanism quite ingenious. Why? Maybe he is just impressed. Who knows. In any case, he bothers to describe the mechanism so it must be something special by itself.
